That’s quite a title of a post: I had double hip replacement surgery! Yes, that’s where I’ve been the past few weeks. Here’s an update.
So way back in 2012, I wrote about my hip issues here.
It’s hard to believe that was five years ago, and I must admit: I’m quite impressed with my level of sharing back then too!
Here’s an excerpt:
So yes, I finally had a double hip replacement in mid-October, and it was a success!
Now I’m in recovery mode, and this stage will take much longer.
And yes, you did see craft projects from me over the past few weeks here, but those I created before the surgery.
Tricky, huh?
Here’s the only shot I have of me at the hospital:
My husband took this photo to document my first steps with a walker.
Where I’m at right now — three weeks later — is I’m able to walk with a walker, and although I’m still on a schedule of pain meds, I’m on track with the exercises and rehab I’m doing here at home.
I’ve got a ton of exercises that were prescribed for me by the physical therapists at the hospital, and I’m also hooked up to my doctor’s office via an app they use to track my progress.
I simply log in with my mobile phone and there are videos of what I need to do, plus a timeline of my progress, all kinds of good stuff.
Plus they call me to check in. I love that!
Today I was excited to venture into my craft room and begin going over my Christmas supplies, so I can begin to create projects.
Today was supposed to be an excellent day of crafting.
It was a nightmare.
First of all, Otto the cat — who’s been the best sidekick I could have every day — decided he was going to whimper and cry almost the entire time I was in there. Not easy to craft with that as a background.
Secondly, I stupidly stood in place with my walker for 40 minutes while attempting to paint something.
Bad idea, as I could barely move after that, and realized I overdid it.
My husband — who has an amazing amount of patience with me — reminded me I was supposed to be crafting while sitting down.
I know, I know. And apparently I thought I knew better.
So now I’m in bed with some ice, and I’ve got my computer up on a perfect hospital-style table that my husband found on Amazon, so I can use it while in bed!
So Day One of Crafting didn’t go well.
I cried over it.
And I think Otto was probably whimpering because he knew I was pushing the limits of what I should be doing right now.
I’d ask him if I’m right, but he’s currently curled up at the foot of the bed sleeping!
