I’ve got a fun IKEA hack for you today: pretty rose gold boxes – DIY style! IKEA storage boxes and bins are so versatile, and with this easy update they become decorative too. Make your office supplies look gorgeous!
Thanks to DecoArt for sponsoring this project and sharing it with their readers. This project idea and the tutorial are both 100% my own.
Back in January, I shared a tutorial on how to upcycle a set of stacking boxes into pretty rose gold boxes:
Those boxes (above) were on the small to medium size — left over from one of those Christmas gift packages of nuts and candy towers we received.
Once I gave those small boxes a makeover, it was time to go big.
It was time to see what IKEA storage boxes and bins would look like with a metallic rose gold update.
Here’s the boxes I purchased at IKEA:
The first step to achieving rose gold bliss is to use a craft paint color that is similar in finish to rose gold. I chose to use DecoArt’s French Mauve acrylic paint.
After the paint dries, it’s time to use my go-to product for rose gold happiness: DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Rose Gold.
Since these boxes were turning out so very pretty, I decided to make a set of mixed media tags to tie onto each of the large-sized boxes. I made the stars (left) and butterfly (right) a rose gold color using the same process as I did on the boxes.
You can see my complete tutorial for the boxes and the mixed media tags — including step-by-step photos plus a list of supplies needed — on the DecoArt website!
